Personal History Born on his family's cattle ranch, located at the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains, in Montana, in 2364, Edward is the youngest of five children, being born two minutes after his twin sister.

The Barnes family had been stewards of the land going back nearly twenty generations, having been farmers and ranchers alike. Even in a time when food replicators are commonplace, there was still the demand for fresh fruits, vegetables and meat.

Life growing up on the ranch was hard, but fair. Everyone was expected to do their share. Edward soon learned how to be self-sufficient and self-reliant. He also learned how to fight. Starting off in minor sibling tussles with his older brother, as he grew and got stronger, he started getting into bare-knuckle fights with other boys his age and older. Needless to say, he found himself infront of the school principal more than a few times. However, no matter the punishment or restriction that was put upon him, he also seemed to find the fights. And, he started to win them more and more.

By the time he graduated high school, he had the build and reputation of being a brawler.

His parents were afraid that if he didn't get some rigid structure in his life, and down, he might end up in prison, ir worse. So, they gave him an ultimatum. He either Enlists in Starfleet, or he would be turned out from the family home. He chose to join Starfleet.

After he joined up at the nearby recruiters office, he was transported to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. There, he started to find the structure that he needed. He excelled I his studies and trained even harder.

After the several months of training are completed, Edward was assigned to the USS Essex, as one of the graveyard shift junior brig crewmen. While on the Essex, he continued his studies, to learn more about both security and tactical operations. He also got involved in a boxing and mixed martial arts team. While he wasn't the most elegant of fighters, he quickly earned a reputation for being tenacious, never backing down from a challenge, even from opponents larger, stronger and faster than he was. No matter how many times he was knocked down, he kept getting back up. He never quit.

When his term was coming to an end, he reenlisted, and was transferred to the USS Hornet. Along with the transfer, came a promotion, to Senior Crewman. He was assigned to the torpedo loading team. His job was to ensure that each torpedo that was ordered by the bridge was armed, and loaded correctly. He took pride in his work, and after a few months of service, had even earned a letter of commendation from the ship's commanding officer, for improving the process of selecting, arming and launching a torpedo in the starboard launcher, by nearly ten seconds, vastly improving the ship's combat readiness.

After two years on the USS Hornet, the ship was retired, having been in service for nearly fifty years. As the Captain was also retiring, the entire crew was given their choice of assignments. After looking through the list of open berths, he settled on the USS Forrestal, who needed a new Senior Weapons Technician. Edward put in his request and it was granted. The last day aboard the Hornet, his old Captain promoted him to Petty Officer, then wished him good luck.

The next two years were tumultuous. The USS Forrestal saw combat in numerous minor skirmishes. During one, Edward was injured when the ship hit a cloaked mine, while they were hunting for Orion pirates. He spent three weeks in sickbay, recovering from his injuries. A few days after he was released, the USS Forrestal was beset by a band of pirates, and the ship was quickly outgunned. The battle ended poorly for the ship, as she took so much damage that the crew had to abandon ship, due to a warp core breach.

Thankfully, two Starfleet and one Klingon ship's responded to the Forrestal's distress call. They drove off the pirates, and saved the surviving crew.

The survivors were brought back to Starbase 314, for medical treatment, debriefing and reassignment. Edward was posted to the USS Akagi, and they were sent back to the Orion sector, to reset the order. Almost immediately, they were engulfed in heavy fighting. Edward was the Senior Weapons Chief on his shift during the heaviest fighting. The Pirates again swarmed the Akagi, deploying mines, as they had against the Forrestal. This time, Edward knew what to look for, and he made his suggestion to his department head, who passed ir up to the Captain.

Using his information, the Captain was able to nor only eliminate the raiders, but captured a wealth of Intel that was sent back to Starfleet Command. Because of his actions during the battle, the Akagi's commanding officer made the decision to grant a field promotion to Edward, giving him the rank of Lieutenant (jg).

After he was promoted, Edward was transferred to the USS Potempkin, where he served on the bridge of a starship for the very first time, as the Beta Shift Security/Tactical Shift Leader. Little did he know that his life would take a darker turn while aboard that ship.

Four years into his time aboard the USS Potempkin, in the early days of April 2395, while on an away mission to an unknown world, Edward was a part of the team, which was led by a Lieutenant Commander who was very sure of himself. Too sure, as it would turn out.

As the team encountered the native people on the surface, the Commander not only made a blunder during the introductions, but he ended up insulting the ruling magistrate of the region. A fire fight ensued, and Edward attempted to get the away team leader to safety. Unfortunately, the man seemed to take leave of his senses and started to panic when they were briefly cornered. Edward attempted to get him to focus, but the man went the other way, actually pulling his phaser on Edward. In a split second, Edward simply reacted, sidestepping the phaser blast and landing a solid right cross across the Commander's jaw, breaking it cleanly.

As the natives started to close in on them, Edward threw the unconscious man over his shoulder and got them back to the beam in point. However, right before the Potempkin transported them back aboard, Edward was shot several times with the projectile firearms that the natives used. He was unconscious and bleeding heavily when he and the other officer materialized on the ship.

Unfortunately, the team leader, woke in sickbay first, and decided to not only blame the failure of the mission on Edward, but charged him with striking a superior officer. When Edward finally woke, he was in a brig cell, awaiting court martial.

After a thorough investigation, it was found that Edward had not been at fault for the mission failure. The other officer was court martialled for several charges, including filing a report that was a blatant lie. He was quickly cashiered out of the service in disgrace.

All of the charges against Edward, save one, were dropped. The one that remained was striking a superior officer. While it was determined that he had acted correctly, for the situation, there was still the issue of the act itself. While he was not demoted, a note was put in his permanent file.

He was transferred to Starbase 572, to recover from his injuries.

In the middle of 2396, he was reassigned to the USS Chimera, as her new Strategic Operations Chief. He was cautioned that, if he had any further incidents, he could very well find himself either out of the service, as a civilian, or in a Federation Penal Colony. It all depended on him and his actions.

What happens next is up to Fate…
