Mission: Die Hard: Chimera Edition (side posts)
Location: Marine CO's Office

Clay had been on the ship for a day now and already he's seen enough to fill a log book of things he'll have to whip into shape for his new marine detachment. Finally getting out of West Point, even if he had to take a rank reduction, was amazing.

The walls of the corridor were spinning as the blonde in Marine sweatpants and t-shirt made her way down it as she stumbled her way towards the Marine Commanding Officer's office. The bottle in her hand was half-empty as she brought it up to look at it, but didn't take another drink just yet. There was something important to do, the comm traffic a couple days out from Orgrann had brought some bad news and she had to share it. Just like she needed to share what was left in here as well. The nameplate on the office just said 'Marine Commanding Officer', no name had ever graced it, but she knew who was supposed to be in there and she banged on the wall in lieu of knocking on the door before lurching around it, "Hey Nat, I've got shome news for you! I even brought shomething to help with it!" The blonde came around the corner and leaned on the door, looking inside as her eyes focused on the figure, "Heyyy, you're not Nat!" A pause, "Right?"

Clay tilted his head in a cat-like curious way. She was loud, boisterous (and frankly possibly drunk).

"I am not. I'm Major McEntyre." Clay replied in his most professional tone he could muster.

“Mayzhor Mac-Mac-MacEninny.” The blonde gave him a questioning look, then laughed as she waved the bottle at him, “Mayzhor Tubble I think! Welcome ‘board, Mayzhor!” She took a drink from the bottle and tried to focus her eyes again on him, “Who are you?”

Clay stood at parade rest. This woman was drunk, he could smell the booze coming off her.

"Major Clay McEntyre, the Third, commanding the Marine Detachment, USS Chimera! Name and Rank, Mister, Oo-Ah!"

The woman gave him another look, “Mishter, I ain’t no mishter!” She very delicately put the bottle on the ground where it wobbled for a few seconds before finally settling standing up, “I’m a Girl!” She emphasized, lifting her shirt to show she wasn’t wearing a bra, “Shee?” then dropping it again, waving at him before reaching down to the bottle and missing it, “Side’s, I know the Cap’n.”

Clay eyes widen. Drunk and Disorderly, indecent exposure. What the hell kind of ship did he land on.

“Mister you best have better give me name and rank or so help me god, Marine, I’ll have you running PT til you drop dead! Sound off Marine! Name and Rank!” Clay stood rigid, his voice stern, purposeful to put the fear of god into this woman before him.

Her eyes slitted as she watched him, but drew herself up to a semblance of attention, as if it were a memory of something from long before. She was still a bit off kilter, but she reached up and took two tries to toss her hair over one shoulder, “Skyie, Calypso, Captain.” Her voice was still slurred, but was audible and understandable. “Command-ding Offisher, Chimera.” Her gaze fixed on his, then slid off as she fell over.

Clay stared wide-eyed as he caught her. He just busted down his fucking Captain, his commanding officer.

Fuck

Clay bolted into the position of attention as best he could while still keeping his captain upright.

“Ma’am, I deeply apologize for my actions.”

Calypso grabbed his arm and stared up at him as she used him to stay upright. Her mouth moved as she considered him as closely as she could, “Why?” She asked him, “Why are you shorry?” She waved with her free hand, “You fink I didn know it, it, it wash you?”

Clay needed to do something. A drunk captain was bad.

“Computer? Location of Captain’s quarters?” Clay didn’t know the ship that well yet, he might also need to loop in the XO about the state of the captain.

“Let’s see about getting you back into your rack, Marine”

“Nuh uh.” Cally shook her head, “Didn’ come down here to get taken to my quartersh, other’ise id have gone there. Came here to Shay hi!” She grinned up and him then focused in, “Shides, not as drunk azh it looks. Better than tryin’ to sleep with you, right? I shink Kally would argue wiff me on that one.” She pointed to the couch, Shit down.”

Clay was more than dumbfounded that this was the way his new Captain conducted herself. What the hell did he get himself into with this new ship. He sits down on the leather couch on the wall of his office.

Calypso nodded in approval, then flopped down on the couch next to him, managing to stay upright as she did through sheer force of will. “You’re fuzzy, you know that?” She asked, making it clear that he very well might not know that simple fact, “Sho, what did YOU do to get sent here to Chimera? Most people have to fuck up badly to get sent to me, or just are disliked enough, or are running away from shomething.”..

“I asked to be assigned here. I was in a desk job at West Point and I grew bored of cadets who could barely hold a rifle let alone act like future marines.” Clay stated bluntly.

“I am a Caitian, I know I am, quite fuzzy. It’s the fur”

“And you picked Chimera?” Cally asked incredulously, as if the revelation had caught her by surprise and started to sober her up, “They din’t warn you that we’re the shit end of the stick? That Shtarfleet gave me the pieces of crap no one wanted? The newbies? The, the.. The ones that din’t fit in? That I shouln’t even be a Cap’n?” She reached up and tapped him on the nose, “Boop!” Then she giggled at herself, “Know why I shouln’t be a Cap’n?”

Clay looked shocked when she booped him on the nose.

“I really didn’t ask. Regardless, even if you think you’re getting the shit end of the stick, we can always improve. Train the crew, whip them into fighting shape. You’re wearing marine PT sweat which I assume means you’re a marine or use to be. We can train the crew to a standard we can be proud of”

“You aren’t touching my crew!” Cally stated confidently, “Trusht me, they’re worth their weight in… Silver at leasht, I like most of ‘em!” She smiled even wider at that, “But you got it! Admiral Hoshua Towers, Shtarfleet Bureau of Pershonnel, gave me people right out of the Academy and the worsht people he could shcrape from other ships. Almosht had to shpace my original Chief Engineer, replashed her with an Enshign jusht out of the Academy. But all becaushe I wore green. Charlie company, Fifth Battalion of the 4th Division, shcout-shniper before they despised I should fly instead. Call-shign Calamity.”

“Oh-Ah marine! I don’t intend to touch your crew only the marines.”

“But I have a Marine Shee-Oh, her name is Nat and she’s pretty damned cute.” Cally pointed out, She’s a Cap’n, keepsh the troopsh pretty good,’long with the Gunny. She’sh cute too, but doesn’t play around.. Not gonna be mean to Nat, are you?”

“I’m afraid that Starfleet has assigned me as the Marine Commanding Officer for the Chimera’s MARDET” Clay spoke as professionally as possible.

Cally shook her head to try to clear it the best she could, focusing her words as she fumbled in her pocket for a hyospray, glanced at the label and injected herself in the arm. A few seconds passed and a shudder went down her body as her eyes squeezed shut in apparent pain, but she held her hand up to forestall comment. “The Four blessings… Michelle warned me about the migraine from this, but…” She blinked hard and held the hypo up, “Alcodote. Counters the alcohol, but at a price.” She squeezed her eyes shut once more, then blinked them open and shifted her seat to look at him, “And why would I give a good goddamn about who Starfleet assigns as ‘in charge?” She asked him, her voice clear, but pained.

“I believe that we should work together and not be adversaries. I wanted to be here, regardless of assignment. I like being in the thick of things and to be transparent about why I’m here. I chose to be here and I want to do the best job I can to the expectations of the Space Service.”

“A Boy Scout?” Cally asked him in what was clearly a rhetorical question, “My, oh my, we’re going to scare you off so quickly, you won’t know what hit you.” Now there was a laugh and grin on her face, “And you’ll get along well with Rei. Forget about ‘the expectations of the service’, Major, don’t let them even cross your mind. There’s nothing out there, “She waved towards the aft of the ship, “That could be considered ‘normal’. You’re catching us on the way back to Federation space, but where we were exiled to, we were within a Hegemony that has somewhat comparable tech to us, ours is still better, but when surrounded by a hundred people with bows, a single tall shield can only hold up for so long. Oh, and that reminds me, we’ve visited a world where the highest technology on the ground is a crossbow, but they still made it to space and into warp, in fact, when you meet Tessa, or should I say Baroness Tessa’e’Sera di’Orion of Heart’s Forge, Daughter of.. yadda yadda, you’ll see why they’re actually formidable. We’ve seen some shit you haven’t dreamed of and sometimes the Book has to get thrown out the airlock. How adaptable ARE you, Major?”

Clay glared at her, using his full height and weight behind it. "Very" Clay spoke in a low drawl.

"I've been a marine since '73. I've fought Dominion, Romulans and species from beyond this galaxy. I have seen hell's heart and lived to tell about it. Captain, I Chose to be here because I wanted too. I didn't want to end behind a desk a Full Bird Colonel, I wanted to be in space on the front."

Calypso grimaced again, rubbing her forehead, "I've been there, done that, have the t-shirt as well, maybe not the from beyond this galaxy, but Dominion? I was on the ground on the front lines with them as a Private, lost my brother to them, First Lieutenant Raiden Skyie, I was a Marine until they kicked me out, told me that I couldn't fly anymore after I lost my leg, so I turned to the Fleet because I couldn't give up what he died for. Since then, I've lost more people than I care to admit, and those that I've cared about and been sent out to die in the beyond. You can clearly give orders, but can you take them? WILL you take them from me?"

"Absolutely Ma'am. Point the way, Marines lead the charge." Clay shifted to the position of attention with that. "Taking orders have never been an issue. And Ma'am: There is no such thing as a former Marine. Once a Marine, Always a Marine, Oo-Rah?"

She made wavey motions at him, "Oh God, not the 'at attention' bullshit, forget all that! At least out here, do it with your troops if you must, but not with me, not unless we've got diplomats and we need the whole rigamarole." Cally smiled at him, "You see, that's the strength of we outcasts, no one cares what we do or how we do it. But I'll take your point, always a Marine, you can't unlearn what we've learned. And that's why I got stuck out here, because Starfleet didn't want one of US in charge of one of their ships. Let's show them why that's their loss?"

"Gladly, if only to piss off my over-righteous brother and his "you'll regret leaving West Point" bullshit".

"Then settle down, Major, because we have a long way to go." Her eyebrows went up and down, "Dismissed." She stood there, expecting something, then glanced around, "I suppose that means I should go, doesn't it? Since this is.... Your office."

"I look forward to serving with you, Captain" Clay gave a big grin before he went back to work.
