Mission:
Die Hard: Chimera Edition (main)
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Shortly after From the Ground Up
The sound of a transporter filled the empty Sickbay and six bodies materialized. Both Kellermans were kneeling over their respective patients, trying to stop the bleeding, Kally with Jenna and Katie with Alex. Fulvia and T'Vel were sitting behind them. Kally breathed a sigh of relief as she looked and saw all of them there.
"Fulvia, get T'Vel onto the first biobed," Kally said, pointing. "Then get over here and help me with Jenna."
“You got it,” Fulvia said. She walked T’Vel to the identified biobed, holding her by the shoulder and hand. T’Vel followed along, eyes closed tightly as she tried to block out the pain of her injury.
Fulvia guided her to a sitting position on the biobed and touched her cheeks, prompting T’Vel to open her eyes and look at her. “You’re safe and in sickbay,” she said, too softly for T’Vel to hear but she was sure she could read lips, or at least get a sense of the feelings at play. “We’ll be back. I need to help others too.”
T’Vel nodded, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes again, allowing Fulvia to go help Jenna.
By the time Fulvia had gotten over to Kally's side, the doors to Sickbay opened and both Tessa and Henry came running in, and, much to Kally's relief, Peter and Erika. "Wait, who's on the bridge?" Kally said.
"Rala," Henry said.
Kally let out a sigh of relief. "All right listen up! Henry: you and Peter get the Commander on biobed three. Katie: keep pressure on his wound until Henry says let go. Fulvia: put your hands under mine and keep pressure on Jenna's wound. Erika: help me lift Jenna."
Henry and Peter moved fast, Peter grabbing Alex's legs, and Henry grabbing his shoulders. They pulled him onto biobed three and Henry started opening storage cabinets. "Get him out of that shirt," he told Peter. "Tessa, can you get a surgical tray ready for biobed one?"
"I got it." The Tialan trotted over to where they kept the trays and tool set, pulling two out, having gotten a look at the engineer as well as Alex. There would definitely be the need for two, "Thirty seconds."
"On it," Peter said, ripping Alex's shirt clean in half and tearing it off his arm.
Henry looked back at Peter in surprise, but Peter stared back and shrugged. "What? You want me to lift him bodily up wounded to pull it off him?"
Henry shook his head and turned back to the cabinet, taking the tray that Tessa handed to him, bringing it over to where Alex was laying.
As Fulvia moved into position, Kally moved around to Jenna's shoulders and waited until Erika was in position before counting off and lifting her up. She apologized as Jenna let out a moan of pain, but was more concerned about how weak the moan was, and how pale Jenna looked. They moved quickly, bringing her over to the second biobed. "Tessa, with me!" Kally called.
"Coming!" Tessa was on the move with the surgical tray, making sure she stayed on her feet and wouldn't drop anything as she hustled over and placed the tray on the table.
They hauled Jenna onto the biobed and quickly cut her uniform top off, exposing her shoulder. Kally immediately hooked her up to a plasma injector, working quickly to replenish the blood she lost. "Projectile wound, went clean through, just needs to be stitched, and blood replaced," Kally said, looking at Tessa as she activated the biobed's scanners. "Are you good?"
Tessa's eyes evaluated the wound on Jenna, grabbing the wet sponge from the tray and gently clearing some of the blood as she did, "I've got this, My Lady, looks straight forward to me, I just need one assistant with some muscle." She looked up at Kally, "Go take care of His Lordship."
"Henry, assist!" Kally called. "Fulvia, stay with T'Vel, I'll be there soon."
“You got it, Doc,” Fulvia said, having taken away the parts of Jenna’s uniform that had been cut off and bringing them to the biohazard waste. After quickly sanitizing her hands, she was back with T’Vel.
Henry immediately turned around and came around to the other side of the biobed with Tessa as Kally jumped in with Alex. "Erika, need you here," Kally said.
“On it,” Erika said, quick as a flash and ready to help.
Katie stepped back out of the way, pulling Peter with her, letting the medical professionals do their job. She sat down in a nearby chair, just in case Kally called for her.
Tessa took out a tricorder and scanned the wound as Henry came over, "I want to roll Jenna slightly, get a look at the exit wound." She said quickly.
"Yes, Doctor," Henry said, helping to carefully roll Jenna onto her side.
"Hold her..." She took the sponge and dabbed at it again to get a clearer picture, not just the tricorder reading, "All right, back down." She slid a pad underneath the wound to keep it clean. "You're going to be fine Jenna, just a little wound," she told Jenna as the woman lay on the biobed. She gave Henry a confident smile, "Muscular regenerator, Nurse." She commanded, a hand out for it, "then let's go ahead and make sure she stays sedated."
Henry handed over the regenerator, then prepped a hypospray and pressed it to Jenna's neck as Tessa stitched the wound back together.
Kally worked over Alex's wound carefully nodding to the tools she needed Erika to pass her. Thankfully the shot hadn't ruined his shoulder, and it was more painful in the short term, but no permanent damage.
As they worked, the transporter sounded again, depositing Jadizon on his back with Raven and Cally standing next to him. Kally looked over, relieved to see Cally, but panicked to see Jadizon out cold and Raven bleeding. "What happened?" she called over.
"Raven took some shrapnel to her cheek during the firefight. Jadizon was brought in like that. Two ensigns said 'something' got to him, but it doesn't look like he's bleeding," Katie said, immediately dropping to his side to look him over.
Kally swallowed. "All right...you three, get him on a biobed. Tessa? Soon as you can spare Henry I need him to get Jadizon's biobed activated, and as soon as you two are done, Henry take care of Raven, Tessa, examine T'Vel."
"Aye, My Lady." Tessa said as she monitored the area inside Jenna's shoulder while she glanced over at Jadizon.
"Yes, Ma'am," Henry said, crisply.
Tessa turned off her tool and placed it to the side, "Suture, then put needle and thread here." She tapped the biobed next to Jenna, "Then get that biobed up for Milord and I'll call you if I need help to turn her for the other side."
"Yes, Doctor." Henry handed her the dissolvable suture and placed the thread as requested before he was off again and Tessa got to work the old-fashioned way.
"Dermal regenerator," Kally said to Erika, pointing to the tool she needed. As Erika handed it over, Kally ran it over what remained of Alex's wound. "Soon as this is done, I'll have Henry finish cleaning him up and I'll move to Jadizon. I'll make it pretty later." She looked at Jadizon with worry, then at Fulvia, T'Vel and Raven. "Erika, grab me the hypospray on the right-hand side of the tray." When Erika handed it over, Kally quickly programmed it with a few doses of painkiller, handing it back to Erika. "One dose each for Raven and T'Vel. At least we can lessen their discomfort while they wait."
“Yes, Doctor,” Erika said, taking the hypospray. Her job very rarely required medical practice, but she had trained and practiced for this possibility.
First she went to Raven and administered the hypo to her neck.
"Ooooh boy. Guess I was a bit more pain-numb than I realized..." Raven felt the difference immediately as she sank onto the floor so that she wouldn't take up a biobed.
Satisfied that she’d administered the medication properly, Erika took the hypo to T’Vel, putting it to the Vulcan’s neck.
Upon hearing the hiss, she could see T’Vel’s face relax.
“Thank you,” Fulvia said for her. “What can I do?”
“For now,” Erika answered, “stay with her. Let her squeeze your hand. Doctor Kellerman will get to her as soon as she can. I can’t speak to her condition, but trust that if the doctor isn’t treating her right now, it’s because she can wait while others might not be able to.”
Fulvia nodded, looking over at how much blood there was on Alex’s arm and chest. So she stayed where she was, out of the way, content to be present for T’Vel.
Kally took a breath and steadied herself before returning her attention to Espersen's wound. One death on the station was enough. She'd be damned if she was going to lose one of her own today.
Tessa finished suturing the vein that had caused the blood loss with a slight smile, using the forceps to lay the bloody needle to the side with suture still attached as she untied the tourniquet and watched the faint pulse of the vein as blood rushed through it again. No seepage occurred before she released the micro retractor that had laid it bare and grabbed the fresh needle and suture that Henry had laid out for her, inserting it into the skin on both sides of the entry wound and tugging them gently together. Her stitchwork was neat and the short line of stitches would keep the wound closed until someone with a dermal regenerator could make it as if they'd never been there. Or a short and thin scar would form.
She glanced around, but everyone was busy, so Tessa moved Jenna up onto her side by herself to access the exit wound, which was still seeping, but not much, using a cleansing solution to clean up the wound and make a quick inspection for any necrotic flesh, but saw none. The level of seepage told her that it was all residual and unlikely to cause infection if she sewed it without a drain, so she grabbed the third needle with suture and stitched this one up the same way, swapping out her pad with a new one before settling the engineer back down on the bed just as gently as she could. By the time she was done, only a few minutes after shed started, she was already emitting a light glow.
Henry was bouncing between biobeds and patients, assisting both Kally and Tessa. He'd handed tools, not confused medication requests, and managed to scoop Raven off the floor and get her to a chair off to the side and out of the way. He paused as he felt a familiar warmth and saw Tessa starting to glow. He paused in his movements and grabbed a fresh hypospray, loading a dosage of phosphorous and vitamins, and keeping it in his pocket for now, waiting until it was needed, or the current crisis was over.
Tessa programmed a hypospray with an antibiotic and pressed it to Jenna’s shoulder for an intramuscular injection, then smiled at her warmly and headed over to T’Vel, “Good afternoon, Ill be your doctor for today.” She said to her newest patient, with another confident smile for Fulvia, “So, what happened to you?”
“Her hearing’s damaged,” Fulvia answered. “Stun grenade. Lieutenant Windancer did her best to muffle it but T’Vel was too close and it was still too much. She was bleeding from the ears, but I think that’s mostly stopped. The way she’s been holding herself, she’s been in agony until Erika gave her the meds.”
At the mention of her name, Raven's head snapped up...which was a BAD idea as the room spun.
"Snybody neen the Mandy Can?" Was what everyone else heard...Raven thought she said was: "T'Vel is gonna be ok right?".
Katie looked at Raven and frowned, worried now that it had been more than just shrapnel to the cheek.
Tessa squeezed T’Vel’s shoulder gently and smiled down at her, pulling her tricorder out of her pocket and flipping it open, “Sounds and looks like ruptured eardrums, not fatal just painful…” She made the scan, eyes flicking back up and down before closing it and pulling the probe off of it, “I’m going to check your pupil reactions, “She told T’Vel, gently holding an eyelid and activating the light on the probe, flashing it into first on eye, up-down, up-down, then repeating with the other side, “Sluggish reaction on the right side. A slight concussion as well.” She leaned back and pondered for a moment, “We should have you back to as good as new in just a bit..”
T’Vel lazily nodded and rested on the biobed, as Fulvia squeezed her shoulder.
“What can I do?” Fulvia asked, repeating the question she’d asked Erika. “Let me help.”
“Not much you can do, just make sure she stays awake for now. Concussions can kill quietly and while I’m not that worried about that happening, better safe than sorry.” She smiled, the glow making her look like an angel sent from heaven, “We’re just going to get speed up the healing process on her eardrums, but otherwise it is all routine.” Tessa paused a moment, “One sec.” She bustled off to the replicator and returns with a small dish of warm water and a cloth, “Tell you what, start clearing away the blood and it’ll keep you busy. Small, gentle strokes, don’t worry if it resists a bit, just means it’s dried and harmless, okay?”
"Thanks, Glow," Fulvia said, accepting the water and cloth. "You hear that, Ears? You'll be good as new soon, you just gotta stay with me, alright?" She soaked the cloth, rung it out, and started rubbing the dried blood off T'Vel's face. "This might sting a bit," she said. "But it'll help keep you awake I guess. That's what's important. Tessa's lookin' after you. She's literally glowing right now, so she just earned a nickname. But I think I need to workshop it. Maybe Glowstick, or Firefly. Can't be Angel, since we already got an Angelface."
"And Henry's claimed that one already," Tessa said, smiling.
Some of it took more effort to remove, and T'Vel winced. "Sorry. Kally's here too. She's helping Mister E right now. Apparently he saved Katie's life and took a disruptor shot for it. We'll need to be careful how we mess with him for the next little bit, okay?"
"Fulvia," T'Vel whispered.
She leaned in closer. "I'm here, Ears."
T'Vel's lifted her hand and cupped Fulvia's cheek sweetly. Then her fingers spread out toward specific neural contact points.
Their breathing synchronized. Fulvia winced as her mind took on some of T'Vel's pain. But then they both regained control. Fulvia nodded quietly and took T'Vel's hand off her, holding it snugly.
"She'll stay awake," she explained to Tessa as she resumed cleaning her girlfriend's face. "I'm carrying some of the mental load. Not how I wanted our first mind meld to happen, but I think it's helping."
Katie walked over to Henry and tapped his shoulder. "Raven's...off," she said.
Henry glanced over at the other woman. "Narrow that down for me?"
"Slurring her words, not making sense," Katie said, quietly.
Henry grabbed a tricorder and came over to kneel in front of Raven who was looking at him with slightly dilated pupils. He scanned her quickly and checked his readings twice. "Concussion," he said.
"Oh, crap," Katie said. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize. I thought she just got scraped."
"It's my fault for not checking," he said, looking at Raven again. "Kally!"
Kally came over and looked at Raven and frowned. She looked at Henry's tricorder and her eyes went wide. "Shit. All right, Peter, help Henry get Raven and Jadizon onto biobeds, then have Erika help get Alex and Jenna into recovery."
Peter leaped up and ran over as Henry nodded, then fished the hypospray out of his pocket and came over to Tessa, pressing it into her back, giving her arm a comforting squeeze before heading over to begin hauling patients.
Kally looked over at T'Vel and Fulvia and wanted to join them, but knew there was a bigger problem and cleaned herself up in preparation for her next patient.
