Mission: Die Hard: Chimera Edition (main)
After turning over the elevator control room to local Orgrann authorities, Mark headed back to the Chimera. He was quickly met by Ensign McGee.
"First, I'd like to apologize, Sir," Lavan said before Mark could say anything. "First time in command, and I nearly lose the ship."
"Don't be hard on yourself, Ensign," Mark replied. "This is something that none of us saw coming, though by now you'd think we'd be used to the idea of dissident groups pretending to come under a flag of truce only to attack us instead. What's our current status?"
"The ship has been cleared of hostiles. Right now Lt. Rala has the bridge," Lavan said. "There are a few others with her at the moment. PO Reyes is there, I know. A lot of the people who are on board who aren't severely injured are helping out either in sickbay or engineering. Everyone is accounted for. Most everyone from the space elevator away team is back, though I believe that the captain hasn't reported back quite yet. We've already got some of the crew from the surface, largely those who were confronting the terrorists down there. There were several injuries, including Commander Espersen and Senior Chief Enor, though what the extent of their injuries are I don't know at the moment. Obviously I didn't want to provide a distraction to Dr. Kellerman and her people during a critical time when they don't even have a complete report to give yet."
"Understandable," Mark said. "What about others on the surface?"
There are still a few stragglers coming in from the crew, mostly those who were too far away when things went down to be in a position to really do anything at the time other than help clean up. And just an FWI, everyone who's part of the ship's civilian compliment are fortunately all right as well, and we're working to bring them in as well. I guess the hostiles didn't have a chance to go after all our people down there by the time Commander Espersen's group engaged them, though whether this was by design or whether they just weren't given the chance, I don't know."
"How's the ship?" Mark asked.
"The shuttlebay got forcibly decompressed when the terrorists thought they'd caught Petty Officers Draven and Sullivan in there, so there's going to be a bit of a mess with cleaning that up. Some minor damage to the mess hall doors and an impromptu reconfiguring of one of the food replicators in there when some of us were locked in there and were working to escape. And Petty Officer Kozlowski did successfully remove a bomb that was attached to the warp core, though what kind of damage the terrorists thought they could cause there with the warp core being off-line I don't know."
"They may not have known that the warp core was off-line in the first place," Mark said, thinking back to the remote device that the terrorist leader had been holding at one point before over on the elevator, with his threats of mass damage if the button was ot be pushed, and wondered if the two were connected. "The bomb was properly disposed of?"
"Yes, sir, it's been deactivated and taken apart," Lavan said. "We're still doing a sweep of the ship just to be sure there's nothing else that we need to be aware of. It's going to take a little bit of time, but we think that due to low numbers on their part that they ignored most non-critical areas and any place like the armory where they couldn't gain immediate access to."
Mark nodded. "I'll be checking on a couple of things myself. Let me know if there's anything new to report."
"Aye, sIr."
