546 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Chimera and Deep Space 16
Location: Deep Space 16 - Medical Transport Juneau

The Juneau dropped out of warp with a slight vibration running through the deck. Deep Space 16 filled the forward viewscreen, its docking facilities crowded with Starfleet vessels, civilian transports, and support craft moving through designated traffic lanes.

Mercer leaned forward, studying the traffic display. "Well, there she is. DS16. Chen, how are we looking?"

"Thrusters green, navigation green, medical systems operational. Traffic's a mess around the docking ring."

"Nothing new." Mercer opened a channel. "DS16 Control, Medical Transport Juneau, attached to the Fleming. Requesting landing clearance. Priority medical assignment involving the USS Chimera."

"Juneau, Control. Authorization confirmed. Landing Pad Four, Bay Twelve. Adjacent to the Chimera's docking berth. Approach coordinates transmitted."

From the center chair, Vale glanced up from Enor's medical file. "How close?"

"Two corridors, Commander," Chen answered.

"Good. Less time dragging equipment around." Vale tapped her combadge. "Medical team, we're coming in. Pack it up, check your gear. I want everybody ready when that hatch opens."

Deep Space 16 — Landing Bay Twelve

"Twenty meters. Ten. Five," Chen counted as Mercer brought the transport through the containment field.

The Juneau settled onto its landing supports with a dull thud.

"Contact. Engines standing by."

Chen checked the indicators. "We're down. All systems green."

Mercer leaned back. "Another perfect landing."

"You didn't hit anything. Let's not get carried away."

Vale stood, collecting her PADD. "You two stay with the Juneau. Get an update on Drake and keep everything ready for the next leg. We don't know how long this is going to take."

"Understood, Commander."

The rear hatch lowered, letting in the noise of the station's busy landing bay. Ground crews were moving cargo, technicians shouted over machinery, and a nearby shuttle was cycling its engines.

"Alright, let's go!" Vale called.

Venn came down the ramp with her neurological assessment kit, still reviewing the available medical records. Bell followed with the emergency cases, while T'Varek carried his diagnostic equipment. Chief Morgan brought the antigrav trolley down behind them, leaving Ellis to manage the remaining supplies.

"Ellis, you're falling behind."

"I'm coming, Chief!"

"Then quit telling me and do it."

Bell looked back. "You know, Chief, the kid's carrying more than you are."

Morgan gave him a sideways look. "You volunteering to help?"

"Not particularly."

"Then keep walking."

A station operations officer approached as Vale reached the edge of the landing area.

"Commander Vale? Chimera's docked through the adjoining passage. Second corridor on your right. Security's expecting you."

"Appreciate it."

Deep Space 16 — Chimera Docking Berth

The team moved quickly through the access corridor. A handful of Chimera personnel passed them going the opposite direction, stepping aside as the unfamiliar medical officers approached with their equipment.

Near the checkpoint, one of the duty security officers glanced at the incoming authorization on his console.

"Fleming medical team?"

"That's us," Vale replied, presenting her PADD.

The officer verified the orders, his eyes briefly settling on the patient's name.

"You're here for the Chief?"

Vale nodded. "We are."

The officer looked toward the others, then back at Vale. "He's a good man, Commander."

For a moment, her expression softened. "Then we'll make sure he's in good hands."

The officer stepped aside. "You're cleared aboard. Welcome to the Chimera."

Vale acknowledged him with a nod and motioned her team forward.

"Alright, people. Let's move."
