Mission: Die Hard: Chimera Edition (side posts)
Location: USS Manaia, Chief of Security Office

“This is a fucking joke, right?” Fiona asked, as she slapped the padd down on Lieutenant Commander Borax's desk.

“Language, McCarthy,” Borax demanded as he looked at her. She was still standing at his desk. He was the Chief of Security aboard the USS Manaia.

“Why should I? Are you going to transfer me again?” she rhetorically asked him. Her tone screamed out rage, her hands shaking hard. It was taking everything she had to fight off the Irish temper boiling inside her. She was beyond pissed; her eyes were a shade of bloodshot red.

“This is an opportunity for you, a fresh start for you,” Borax insisted to her. He could not help but want to mold her into a proper Starfleet officer.

“I thought that it was a joke, until I looked up the Chimera. The ship is full of incompetent people. What makes you think I'm going to do better there, sir?“

“Admiral Towers believes you can bring balance there. It's not like you have much choice. Everyone in the fleet rejected your application.” Admiral Towers had made it very clear that she was going to the Chimera and told every captain that if they accepted her, they would have to answer to him, personally.

“I don't believe you, Sir, but, as you said, it's not like I have much of a choice. It's either this or go back home. I worked hard to get to the academy. This has been my life's dream, and for you to take it away from me after a couple years is bullshit.” Fiona pointed out to him.

“I'm not taking anything away from you; I'm giving you another opportunity. The Chimera has accepted you. Take this opportunity and learn from it. The Admiral personally wanted you on that ship,” Borax insisted to her.

Hearing him say that did not make her feel reassured at all. “It's not like I have a choice.” She reluctantly picked up the data padd from the desk.

“For what it's worth, I am sorry I couldn't help you.” Borax insisted to her.

Fiona just gave him a death stare, thinking to herself, how dare you say something like that. The only reason she was in this position was because he had given up on her.

“Well, you got to gloat about this. Am I excused now, sir?!” Fiona asked, trying to keep her temper in check.

“McCarthy….” Borax started to say but realized it was pointless; he knew she was upset. Part of him understood why, but she didn't understand that he tried everything he could to help her.

“Dismissed,” he simply said, as he watched her storm out of his office.

Fiona was forced to wait several weeks. She went from one transport vessel to the to the next to try to get aboard the USS Chimera as soon as possible. She knew they were deep out on an assignment and they were down an Assistant Chief of Security. She had no idea if this was a real promotion or if she was going into the shit show.

For the life of her, she couldn't figure out why the Admiral had assigned her that role, or if it had been the lieutenant, but she couldn't see a young lieutenant just choosing her, knowing how disobedient she was, according to that idiot, Borax.

Location: Federation Transport Vessel

Fiona was very annoyed. She could not believe how trapped she felt in this sardine can of a ship. The vessel was a petri dish of germs and diseases waiting to be shared. She scoffed as she climbed up to the top bunk. There were twenty-seven bunks in her room, nine bunks with three beds on each bunk.

She mumbled to herself, thinking that if the Admiral really wanted her to babysit, he could have sprung for a nice cruiser to take her to there, and not some stinky little mass transport vessel.

She managed to hoist herself up, her small little frame trying to avoid hitting in the ceiling. As soon as she got on the bunk, she couldn't really sit up, just roll from side to side. She thought to herself, this is just great. Two weeks of this garbage.
