Mission:
Die Hard: Chimera Edition (side posts)
Location: USS Chimera Sickbay
Timeline: Before Die Hard
Walking down the Luna vessel's corridors, Boudreau and Koz stayed a shoulder's width apart, Koz occasionally shooting the Cajun a frowning look and muttering under her breath. Boudreau knew he had gotten under Koz's skin on the flight over to the planet - it had been a long voyage to be stuck together with little in common, but he felt the daggers being flung his way were a bit much.
As they approached Sickbay, Boudreau slowed, and moved behind Koz. 'Ladies first as they say,' he declared with an unnecessary level of bonhomie to wind her up, and flourished his hand towards Sickbay's double-doors. Koz looked at him, took in a deep breath, puffed up her cheeks as she shook her head, and let it out explosively before heading through the door.
Boudreau chuckled as he went.
Kally looked over as the doors opened. Henry and Tessa were busy and Erika was on her break, leaving Kally to hold down the fort. She saw the Trill first and broke into a grin. "Well, hello there," she said with a grin, looking the woman up and down. She then spotted her companion and grinned wider. "And hello as well. I'm Doctor Kally Kellerman. To what do I owe this double pleasure?"
Both Koz and Boudreau looked down at the shorter woman, Koz visibly reddening as the blonde looked her up and down. Boudreau stepped forward and extended his hand. "I wouldn't know about double with stuck-in-the-mud Reni here, but I can assure you I more than make up for it. Remy Boudreau, you're new Assistant Chief Science Officer, at your service."
Huffing, Koz shot him a look. "I'll have you know I'm fun, when it's appropriate. We're on-duty Lieutenant, even if the Doctor hasn't signed us off for it yet." She huffed. "Catch me after the shift and I'll show you a mean backhand." Boudreau just smiled and rolled his eyes at Kellerman.
"You heard the Chief, Doctor. We're here to be certified fit."
"Well, if you're on this ship, you're already certifiable," Kally said, grinning. She walked up to Remy and gave him an appraising look. "And you are living up to everything I've heard," she said, giving his arm an appreciative squeeze before turning around. "So, Reni, why don't you follow me, and we'll have you take a lie down while Mister Bourdreau relaxes in a chair and waits his turn." She led them over to a free exam room, holding the door open for Reni and gesturing to a comfy chair for Remy.
Boudreau took the proffered seat, lounging as he sunk into his plushness. He gave the perky doctor and Koz a wave as they headed through the door. Koz scowled at him once more.
As they walked through the door, Kally winked at Reni. "And maybe we'll try out that backhand," she said, following the other woman in.
'Oh, uh,' Koz blushed again, then smiled. 'It's not really that good,' she started babbling, 'I'm just a really average tennis player, you know. So, uh, you're a doctor? On the Chimera? How's that for you?'
As she babbled, Koz spied the biobed for the examination, and made a beeline for it, jumping up on to it. She undid the collar on her uniform and let out a breath. 'That feels good,' she said without waiting for Kally to answer her stream of questions.
Kally walked over and felt Reni's neck gently, checking for swelling, then gave her a smile. "I am indeed a doctor, and it's certainly got its perks." She winked and put a hand on Reni's thigh. "If you're overheated, why don't you remove your jacket? I'll keep it handy until we're done."
'Uhm,' Koz replied, feeling the gentle pressure on her thigh. Her brain rebooted long enough for her to nod, and shrug off the uniform jacket, leaving her in just the standard tank top. 'That feels so much better - you know, I think they make the uniform collar deliberately too tight, y'know? Like, punishing you for transferring. That kind of thing.'
"Thank you!" Kally said, grabbing her tricorder. "I have been saying that for years! Especially my dress uniform! I swear, I cannot get out of my clothes fast enough when I get to my quarters." She grinned and bobbed her eyebrows.
Koz shuffled around on the bed, making herself comfortable and leaning back on her hands slightly, and not quite resisting looking Kally up and down. 'So what got you transferred to the Chimera?'
Kally stopped cold and looked up at the other woman. Despite everything, she realized no one had really asked her that. Everyone already knew about the incident. I guess this means time has passed enough that it's fading from legend, she thought.
"Well," she said starting her scans, "when I was an ensign on the Intrepid, I invited two visiting Klingon ambassadors back to my quarters for a good time. A very good time, as it turned out, because I wound up between them in a position they jokingly called 'A warrior's configuration.'" She made quotation fingers. "I believe humans call it a 'spit-roast.'" She winked. "Honestly wasn't sure I'd survive it, given my eyes were rolling so far back I was seeing my own temporal lobe, but I wasn't really in a position to tell them to stop. Unfortunately, that meant that no one was watching the chronometer, and they wound up being nearly three hours late to a peace treaty negotiation we were taking them to."
Koz blinked, processing the information. She'd gotten a vibe from the doctor but this ... this was not it. She'd been know to take a few risks in her off-duty life and gotten reprimands for it but this ... Kally was on another level. Quietly, her level of respect for the doctor went up a notch. Maybe she could find a friend here. Between her and Rala, things might not be so bad on this assignment.
"There was one silver lining," Kally said. "In a fun little plot twist, the two ambassadors had seemingly had all the aggression drained out of them." She gave a wry smile. "So they were unusually relaxed for the negotiations, and a treaty got signed. I called it a win, Captain Hansen called it a court-martial offense. However, I now had two ambassadors in my...erm...corner, and Starfleet didn't want to bring to light anything that would cause them or their friends on the Council any undue scandal. So, in fine Starfleet fashion, they removed the problem, not by punishing but by promoting. I was made a j.g. and shipped off here into exile."
She paused and her smile turned from saucy to sincere. "And...the real irony? I was sent here as a punishment, but it's become the greatest gift I could ever have asked for. I love this ship, and I love this crew. I met my girlfriend here, I've met the greatest friends I've ever had here, and this is my home."
'I ... don't know what to say,' Koz giggled. 'Honestly, I didn't think humans had the stamina to hold up with Klingons. You're all so ... well. Squishy isn't the word. Physically undistinguished maybe? But what you're able to do the mind boggles. And if you're going to commit a court-martial offense, best to do it in a fun way.'
She fell silent for a moment, then said, 'I'm glad you said it was the best thing to happen to you. Maybe my transfer here won't be so bad from the way people are talking ...'
Kally waved a hand. "Let them talk," she said. "This ship is wonderful, and this crew is the best." She leaned down and whispered gently in Koz's ear. "And if you'd like to see how Trill stamina matches up, we can leave your friend waiting out there a bit longer." She ran her fingers up Koz's thigh teasingly and blew gently in her ear.
She let out a quiet sigh as Kally's breath hit her ear. It had been a long time since she'd had that kind of fun. Koz blushed again, the red spreading across her chest as she looked at Kally for the longest second. Her heart beat faster. She had promised herself this time would be different ... No risks. No bad behaviour. No stupid mistakes.
But. But. Kally's fingers running up her leg sent a shiver down her spine, and she knew she was putty in her hands at this moment. 'I guess ... making him wait ... isn't the worst thing,' she said breathlessly.
"Atta girl," Kally said, jumping onto the biobed with her.
As the doors finally opened nearly an hour later and Reni stumbled out, Kally leaned on the doorway, smiling. "Next," she purred, looking at Remy.
Getting to his feet, Boudreau smiled as he advanced on the door. 'You have a much better bedside manner than my last Doctor. Where'd you study, so I can send them notes?'
"Starfleet Medical, same as the others," she said. "I just have a more personable approach." Kally watched him step inside, grinning, and let the doors close. "All right, clothes off quick as you like, and up on the biobed."
He raised an eyebrow, but undid his jacket, hanging it tidily on the hook by the door. Boudreau lined up his shoes neatly, and folded his trousers and placed them on a chair. Clad in on his standard issue undershirt and briefs, he nodded at the Doctor. 'All right, where do we start?' he said, taking his place on the biobed. The man was sure it was his own imagination but it still seemed warm from Koz's being there moments ago.
Kally moved behind him and removed her uniform jacket as well, draping it on the back of the chair and kicked off her boots, then dropped her trousers on top of his. She hopped up on the biobed next to him and leaned in, brushing her lips against his. "How about a physical endurance test?" she purred.
'Depending on what kind of test you want to run, your either underdressed or overdressed,' Boudreau replied huskily. He smiled again, 'boy the Chimera's crew are sure friendly in their hellos. You sure there isn't anything in the water round here? Some tiny microbial creatures? Some kind of candle ghost haunting the hallways? You test regularly right?'
"Of course not. We might find something and accidentally cure it," she said, grinning. "And to your point...overdressed." She pulled her shirt off and shorts, tossing them over her trousers. "Shall we begin?"
'Alright,' Boudreau replied as he stripped off the remainder of his clothes. 'But let's be clear. It would be ungentlemanly of me to remain in my uniform while you were out of it,' he winked. 'Which is how we've arrived at our present pleasant predicament. You weren't just trying to dig out a tricorder now were you?' He sat, carefully, back on to the biobed.
"No need. The biobed does the scans, I just keep your heartrate up," she said, jumping on him happily.
Nearly another hour later, the doors opened and the duo walked out, once again neat-as-a-pin, a satisfied smile on Kally's face. "Well, the good news is, you both have a clean bill of health, and are officially part of the crew," she said. "Of course, I do insist on regular checkups." She winked at Koz.
Blushing again, Koz shot Boudreau a suspicious glance at his dishevelled hair and rumpled uniform. She decided to leave it. For now. But he was living exactly up to her expectations after their long journey here. 'Glad to be officially welcomed Doctor,' Koz replied to Kellerman with a wink, 'and that we have a clean bill of health. I'll catch you later.'
"Actually," Kally said, the playful tone dropping for a moment. "Could you, maybe, swing back here in an hour and join me for lunch? There's something I'd love to talk to you about."
'I, uhm, sure,' Koz replied absentmindedly reliving what had just happened in the room. 'Sure, I'd love to,' she said more positively. Something about Kally seemed comforting and welcoming, and Koz was determined to make at least one friend aboard.
Kally smiled. "See you then."
'Boudreau,' she said, nodding curtly, and heading out the door, a bit more of a swagger to her gait than had been apparent since her coming aboard. Apparently doctors could go far to curing all ills.
For his part, Boudreau looked to Kellerman, then Koz's retreating back as some connections clicked. 'Thanks for the check-up Doc. I'll be round regularly if all our checkups are going to be that ... useful.'
Kally's smile returned and she walked up to him and kissed him. "My pleasure," she said. "I do take the well-being of my crew to heart, and we're an affectionate bunch. I'm here to help, day or night. In point of fact, would you be willing to drop by my quarters tonight? 1900? I'm sure my girlfriend would love to have you join us for dinner." She grinned with a wicked gleam in her eye. "And I promise you'll enjoy dessert."
'Girlfriend?' Boudreau asked momentarily taken aback. 'I, sure, I'll come meet your girlfriend, so long as what we did is on the level.'
Kally gave him an extremely serious look, all playfulness from her voice gone. "Mr. Boudreau," she said seriously, "please understand that if that wasn't on the level, it wouldn't have happened. And that goes both ways. We're very affectionate on this ship, but we respect each other's relationships. Some are closed, some are open, some are more open than others. So if I invite you to something, please rest assured that I'm doing so with my partner's knowledge and consent. All right?"
He nodded, 'Just checking ... I've come across some odd people in my time, you understand. When the barrel's as big as a ship, you're bound to get a few bad apples. And I don't want to cause anyone any hurt while I'm having my fun, that's not my bag.'
She smiled again and gave him a warm hug. "See you tonight," she said, a teasing grin back on her face.
'You bet, Doctor,' Boudreau chuckled, returning the hug before detaching himself and heading out the door.
