888 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Die Hard: Chimera Edition (main)
Location: Captain's Ready Room

Calypso Skyie looked out the window of her conference room at the planet receding in her view. All of her crew had been accounted for and several decorations were going to be needed to be handed out in the near future for those crewmembers that had gone well above and beyond in this latest crisis. That, plus some of them would need to be promoted most likely.

"Computer, Captain's personal log, Stardate... Whatever it is. You know that thing better than I do."

She took one last look at the planet and turned around, taking off the uniform jacket she'd worn during the departing ceremony with the Orgranni government, then tossed it onto the couch in disdain. No flight suit for her with that one, she'd needed to be formal.

"To sum up the last four days, this wasn't as relaxing as I had really wanted it to be. Most of the crew was able to get some pre-refit R&R in, but the terrorist takeover of the station and ship forced some of the crew to distinguish themselves in their actions to rescue us. The curse of being the Captain is that I'm not allowed to take risks with myself unless absolutely necessary and the fact that the Federation doesn't negotiate with terrorists really tied my hands this time. I understand the reasoning behind it, but it nearly got Lieutenants Rala and Jade killed on the station, much less Lieutenant Windancer, Commander Espersen and Crewman Apprentice T'Vel on the ground. The cost to those members of the ship's crew that had been finishing up on Chimera herself could have been drastic as well."

She sighed lightly, "I'll have to look into the regs on this one, but I'm submitting Lieutenant Rala, Petty Officer Kozlowski, Lieutenant Katie Kellerman and Chief Enor for Conspicuous Gallantry Awards. Commander Espersen is going to be put in for the Medal of Valor for his actions in saving Lieutenant Kellerman, despite the fact that he got himself shot in the process." Cally allowed herself a small smile at the one. "Others deserve awards, but I can't go about with everyone. I'd like to commend Ensign Taylor, Lieutenant Windancer, Crewman Recruit T'Vel and Petty Officer Benevenuto of all people for their efforts in rescuing their fellow crewmates and relieving the ground situation."

She pondered for a second, "I also find myself needing to find some way to recognize Baroness Tessa Orion for her services in this crisis. Not only did she help in the rescue of several crewmen and in the process of liberating Chimera from the terrorists, but after turning around to treat our wounded she then joined Lieutenant Valleroy in the process of bringing the two opposing sides in this crisis back to the table until I was able to get back down to the surface for the final negotiations. I believe she didn't get any sleep in those three days, she certainly didn't look like she'd had any. Between them, the Lieutenant and the Baroness had a framework ready for me, not that the environmentalists weren't bending over backwards to distance themselves from Salven and his extremists. I heard it was Tessa who insisted that their previous demands were brought back into the equation for a fair settlement. What do you get a girl who seems to have everything? And all at the age of seventeen. Maybe there's a lot that we can learn from Tial, no matter how backwards they sometimes seem."

"Before we get to Deep Space Sixteen, I'm also going to have to give out a few promotions based on what happened." Cally continued on. "They will be as follows:

Crewman Recruit T'Vel will be promoted to Crewman T'Vel with an eye towards Petty Officer Third Class in the near future.

Petty Officer Second Class Peter Kozlowski will become First Class.

Petty Officer Third Class Fulvia Benevenuto to Second Class.

Ensign Henry Taylor to Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Finally, I'm putting in Lieutenant Mark Valleroy for promotion to Lieutenant Commander. He really does deserve that extra half pip with his efforts over the last year and a half."

Cally paced over to the couch and slumped down onto it, "Much of the crew is going to be going their various ways in about two weeks and I've authorized anyone who wants to go on an extended vacation to take as long as they want, so long as they're back within ten weeks, which is our estimated completion date for our refit. Lieutenant Valleroy has volunteered to remain with the ship and we're already expecting more senior officers by the time we hit the station. I myself will be going to meet my girlfriend's parents, so lucky me? Look at me, forty years old and nervous about meeting her PARENTS? What's wrong with this picture?" She laughed.

"All right, I've got a bunch of paperwork to do, or to dump onto Fiona, maybe... Some of it at least. What did I do to get this sort of crew? We've gone from troublemakers and misfits to a family that will go to any lengths to save one another. I want to rub THAT into Towers's face. And if anyone dares to break up my crew? They're going to have to go through me first."

"End Captain's Log."
